Petaluma is one of the oldest cities in California. The Petaluma River flows through its beautifully preserved historic downtown area, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. In Petaluma you will find restored Victorian homes and iron front buildings.
Petaluma is a small city in Sonoma County Wine Country, yet close enough to San Francisco (32 miles) that many residents commute into “the City”. Nearby are the many wineries of Napa and Sonoma counties, redwood trees and dramatic coastline including the Point Reyes National Seashore.
Because of its quiet hometown feel, many movies have been filmed in Petaluma, most notably American Graffiti. Downtown Petaluma still looks just as it did when the movie was filmed 35 years ago. There are many tempting local shops, including boutiques, antique stores and the nearby Petaluma Factory Outlets.
